Team Member Feature: Michael Halcomb

We would like you to meet our team member, Michael Halcomb. Michael is the Oklahoma City Branch President. He has been with ES2 since its inception, when he and Bill Kinser co-founded the company on July 4, 2008.

Are you originally from Oklahoma?

Yes, I’m originally from Oklahoma. I grew up in the small town of Cement, Oklahoma, and graduated from Cement High School with a class of just 16 seniors.

Tell me about any certifications, degrees, or training you have?

I have an associate degree in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technologies from Oklahoma State University–Okmulgee. I’ve also earned certifications relevant to our field, including NEBB Certified Professional in Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing of Environmental Systems, as well as NEBB Certified Professional in Whole Building Systems Technical Commissioning. Continuous learning is important to me, and I actively pursue training opportunities to stay current with industry standards and best practices.

Are you a member of any organizations?

Yes, I’m actively involved in ASHRAE and NEBB. I’ve served in various roles with the Central Oklahoma ASHRAE Chapter and currently have the honor of serving as Chapter President for the 2024–2025 year. At our recent regional event in April, our chapter was awarded the Golden Gavel for best chapter in the region — a recognition I’m especially proud of. Being part of these organizations helps me stay connected to the industry and gives me a chance to give back.

Tell me what your experience working for ES2 has been like?

From the beginning, Bill and my goal has been to create a family-oriented atmosphere by empowering talented people, providing excellent service, installing great products, and leaving a legacy of integrity. It’s been a great journey, and I’ve grown both professionally and personally over these past 17 years.

Working at ES2 has been incredibly rewarding. The company culture promotes collaboration, integrity, and innovation. I’ve enjoyed being part of a team that truly values doing things the right way. We take pride in helping our clients achieve high-performance building systems. There’s also a strong sense of mentorship and support here, which I deeply appreciate.

Describe a typical work day for you?

No two days are exactly alike, but typically my day involves a mix of office work and customer interactions. I’m responsible for overseeing the ES2 Oklahoma City office and ensuring that we are aligned with our strategic plan. I also represent the company professionally within the community and focus on building and enhancing client relationships. In addition, I mentor team members and support our QA/QC efforts to uphold our high standards.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

I enjoy solving problems — especially those related to improving system performance and seeing tangible results. Our customers often have complex systems, and we excel at finding effective solutions. I also highly value the relationships we build with clients and our team. There’s something especially fulfilling about being part of a process that improves energy efficiency and occupant comfort in buildings.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

Yes, outside of work I enjoy fishing, dove hunting, and camping. I’ve also been known to spend a few hours here and there playing computer strategy games.

Are you a sports fan?

Absolutely — I’m a big sports fan and especially love basketball. I follow both OU and OSU across basketball, baseball, softball, and football. I’ve been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan since I was a teenager, but my biggest passion is the Oklahoma City Thunder. I don’t miss a game and really enjoy discussing sports with friends and coworkers.

Tell us about your family?

Yes, I’m married and have four kids. I’m also excited to welcome my first grandchild in July — can’t wait! Family is very important to me. Summers at my house are always full of kids, nieces, nephews, and cousins — it’s a full and joyful household.
