Team Member Feature: Abinash Gupta

We would like you to meet our team member, Abinash Gupta. Abinash is an Energy Solutions Engineer for ES2 and has worked at ES2 for two years.

Are you originally from Oklahoma?

I am originally from Nepal. I moved to Oklahoma for my graduate studies at Oklahoma State University, where I earned my Master’s in Industrial Engineering and Management. Since then, I’ve stayed in Oklahoma to pursue my career in energy efficiency and sustainability.

Tell me about any certifications, degrees, or training you have?

I hold a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MNIT Jaipur, India. I am a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) through the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Along with this, I hold an Energy Auditing Certificate from the U.S. DOE Industrial Training and Assessment Center, and additional technical credentials, including Tableau Desktop Specialist, AutoCAD, and Six Sigma/Lean practices. I’ve also completed specialized trainings in Supply Chain Design and Network Optimization from Coupa University. These programs, together with my academic and professional experiences, have strengthened my ability to deliver innovative and practical energy efficiency solutions.

Are you a member of any organizations?

I am an active member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), where I’ve served in leadership roles at the student chapter level and now contribute as an executive member of the Oklahoma Chapter. I am also a member of ASHRAE and Alpha Pi Mu, the Industrial Engineering Honor Society. Through these organizations, I participate in professional development, networking, and knowledge-sharing opportunities that strengthen both my work and the broader energy community.

Tell me what your experience working for ES2 has been like?

Working at ES2 has been a truly rewarding experience. Coming from more academic and technical roles, I’ve found ES2 to be a very close and personal company where colleagues feel more like friends and every client relationship matters deeply. What makes it unique is that our work goes beyond being just another project—we take personal ownership of every audit, design, and implementation effort, ensuring that clients see measurable results. I’ve especially enjoyed the balance here: on one side, the opportunity to lead energy assessments, process design, and modeling projects that deliver millions in verified savings; and on the other, being part of a supportive, collaborative team that makes the work meaningful and enjoyable.

Describe a typical workday for you?

A typical day at ES2 combines technical work with a strong sense of collaboration and personal connection. I spend much of my time analyzing data, modeling systems, and conducting energy assessments at client facilities, identifying opportunities for efficiency and process improvements. From there, I help translate findings into actionable solutions—whether that’s supporting design, securing incentives, or guiding implementation. What makes ES2 different is that it’s not just about the technical work; it’s also about the culture. This is a close, personal company where colleagues feel like friends, and every client relationship is treated with care. That balance—delivering meaningful results while working in such a supportive environment—makes each day both rewarding and meaningful. Alongside project work, I also spend time mentoring younger engineers and interns, sharing best practices, and supporting their professional growth. No two days look exactly the same, but they all revolve around making a positive impact and contributing to long-term improvement.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

I find the greatest satisfaction in the teamwork and connections that come with this role.. Whether I’m working with a client during an energy assessments to understand their challenges and design better solutions, or collaborating with colleagues and ES2 partners, it always feels like we are one team working toward the best possible outcome. That spirit of partnership not only builds strong relationships but also makes the work meaningful and enjoyable. I also value the chance to mentor younger engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and supporting their growth. Altogether, it’s the mix of collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous learning that keeps me motivated every day.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through hiking and exploring new places, as well as playing sports with friends. I also like reading and keeping up with the latest innovations in energy and sustainability, which often sparks new ideas for my work. Spending time with friends and community groups is another way I recharge and stay connected outside the office.

Are you a sports fan?

I enjoy following soccer and cricket, which are hugely popular where I grew up. Since moving to the U.S., I’ve also developed an interest in basketball and football. Rather than rooting for just one team, I enjoy the excitement of a good match and the competitive spirit across different leagues.
