Employee Feature: Sydney Flinn

We would like you to meet our employee, Sydney Flinn. Sydney is an Accounting Specialist for ES2, and Sydney has worked for ES2 for almost 8 years.

Are you originally from Oklahoma?

Yes, I am from Harrah, Oklahoma, but I live in Edmond now.

Tell me what your experience working with ES2 has been like?

I started at ES2 as the receptionist right out of college. I was helping mainly in Sales and Accounting, but doing things across all departments. My role has evolved over the years, moving into more of an Accounting and HR role. I do most HR-related duties like payroll, onboarding, and benefits enrollment. In Accounting, I do mostly new project set up, pre-qualifications, payroll, and work with financial statements and closing fiscal periods. I can also help and assist in accounts receivable and accounts payable, budget revisions, bank reconciliation, and collections when help is needed. I also do all the party and event planning for the company, like our Anniversary and Christmas party. I enjoy working with my coworkers within my department, but I also find each new day is challenging in its own right. Not every day in Accounting is the same, we have to juggle several job-related issues at a time, employee inquiries, and many vendor and customer request's a day. There are a lot of moving parts, and It's never a dull day, and something interesting is always happening, and even though we are deadline-driven, we are always learning something new about putting work in place within the different departments within the company.

What certifications, training, or degrees do you have?

BA in Communications & Marketing from University of Central Oklahoma, and AAS in Accounting from Rose State College

Describe a typical day at work for you?

Usually, my busiest weeks in a month are usually the first two working weeks and the last week. During those days, I am doing payroll auditing time, reconciling benefits, updating PTO, entering the invoices, and making sure they get paid. Usually doing our journal entries for moving parts and time, or running reports for our Service department and project-specific reports for departments. Closing the books in our Arkansas branch, processing any new vendor setup requests, and doing job set up from our Sales team.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

My favorite aspect of my job has always been that there's always a new problem or process, it truly is never dull. Though numbers are not many people's favorite things it's like a constant puzzle and making sure accounts and their balances match and make sense. There are not many things within ES2 that don't run through Accounting.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

I love hanging out with my friends, traveling, working out, baking, and going for long leisurely walks through the aisles at Target.

Are you a sports fan?

I have been involved in sports since I was three years old. I love them. ESPN is always on in our house. My husband is an OU graduate and has football season tickets. We love watching OU softball, baseball (Astros), and our daughter is really into gymnastics, so we are enjoying that for now. We really love watching her watch gymnastics on TV when it's on.

Tell us about your family?

I have been married for 4 years to my husband, Tim. He is an ICU Nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. We have a 3-year-old little girl named Reese, and we will be welcoming a new addition in May 2022. We have a beloved 10-year-old Yellow Lab Sadie, and we take her on walks around our neighborhood and the playground. We spend a lot of our time in the summer at the zoo and splash pad. We usually do a family trip to Destin in the summer.
